NO OTHER GOD

NO OTHER GOD

By Tinig ni Maria

You tell me not to worry

You promise You’ll provide

You set me free from captivity

You calm my weary mind

You put a song inside my heart

You give me peace like no one can

From me You’ll never part

You gave me another chance

No other God can save me in this way

Even in the blazing furnace, You see me through

You never let me burn, You never let me fall

No other God can save in this way

You tell me not to be afraid

Every single day

You strengthen me when I’m weak

You heal me when I’m sick

You make me walk on waters

You make me move mountains

Even when the storm comes

As long as I’m in Your boat, I’m safe

I won’t bend the knee

I won’t fall on the ground

If it’s not for You, my Lord

For me, there’s no other God but You

THE GIFT OF LOVE

 THE GIFT OF LOVE

By Tinig ni Maria

Love is water, it quenches your thirst

It refreshes your heart and your soul

You’ll understand when you get your first

Hear it in ballads and rock n’ roll

Love is a rose, in time it will bloom

Then you will see magical beauty

You will understand how love smells like

Uniquely sweet, stays in memory

Love is the sun, its touch cheers you up

It gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling

You’ll understand when you get a hug

Tender care that covers your being

Love is a fur coat, soft, smooth, and warm

It keeps you safe from the biting cold

You’ll understand once inside the arms

Of the person that you want to hold

Love is a song, a familiar refrain

Inviting you to just sing along

You’ll understand when you hear the tune

The voice that you will never get wrong

Love is a paper – white, crisp, and clean

Waiting for the touch of that black ink

You’ll understand once you start writing

Your own story of red, blue, and pink

My Crown

 MY CROWN

By Tinig ni Maria

I stand in the middle of the crowd

As the people watch me intently

I do not look, I don’t need to see

You are my eyes, great things you show me

I walk in the middle of darkness

As the branches of trees reach for me

I don’t run, I’m not in a hurry

You’re my feet, you hold me up calmly

I step on broken branches and twigs

As blood trickles on path I can’t see

I do not yell because I am free

You’re my potion, you always heal me

I run in the middle of the woods

As darkness deepens it covers me

I do not stop, it’s just not scary

You are my shield, here to protect me

I jump over hundred deadly traps

As their teeth snap under me madly

I don’t falter, let them go crazy

You are my rock, you always got me

I pass by, lions pouncing at me

Their thunderous roars loud and mighty

I do not shake, I stand tall and proud

Heavenly Father, You are my crown

Blackballed

Blackballed

By Tinig ni Maria

“Let’s wait for Princess there by the gates,” Monica told Sophia and headed to the gates without waiting for an answer. It was strategical. Jenny, the cheerleader captain was also there, chatting with her friends, Mary and Pearl, who were also cheerleaders by the gate. Monica heard that they Jenny was planning to throw a party for the squad after the basketball championship game on Friday. Monica has never been to any of Jenny’s parties but she had definitely heard how cool and fun those parties were.

“Do you think I should invite Angel and Abigail?” Jenny asked her friends.

“Hmmm, well, Angel’s mom just launched her own skincare line so I think we can invite her. However, I’m not sure about Abigail. There’s something odd about that girl,” Mary answered.

“But Abigail has two cute college brothers so we might need to be nice to her,” Pearl chimed in.

Monica laughed loudly and Sophia’s jaw dropped.

“What’s happening to you?” Sophia asked Monica.

“Excuse me?” Jenny asked.

“Sorry, I can’t help it. I overheard your conversation and I don’t think you should invite any of them,” Monica answered completely turning her back on Sophia.

“And you are?” Mary asked with an arched brow.

“I’m Monica. We’ve been classmates since the first grade,” Monica introduced herself.

“Well?” Jenny asked impatiently.

“Well, Angel’s mom got divorced recently and her mom likes buying counterfeit Guccis. You also mentioned Abigail’s older brothers? One of them is engaged and the other one is gay,” Monica explained.

“We need to go and shop. Join us and tell us more,” Jenny instructed.

Monica started to follow her.

“Hey, what about our pizza party?” Sophia asked.

“Some other time,” Monica answered.

She filled in Jenny and her friends about more gossip about other girls that they were planning to invite on the way to the mall. When they arrived, Monica had everyone crossed out from the list.

“OK, we’re shopping now. You can go home now,” Pearl dismissed Monica.

“What? Well, I guess I’ll just see you on Friday?” Monica asked.

“What? Oh, you mean the party? Sorry, you can’t go. So many things happen in my parties and you can’t be trusted to not blab about such things,” Jenny said as she turned her back to Monica.

PICTURESQUE (Ode for Jawili Beach)

PICTURESQUE

(Ode for Jawili Beach)

 By TinigNiMaria

The skies as clear as crystals

Blue as a white cat’s eyes

Clouds as white as cotton

Birds in V-formation

Sands as fine as sugar

Softly touching my feet

Light as a dove’s feather

Stay with me forever

Shadows as dark as night

Add magic, mystery

Laughter that sounds like bells

Voices that sound like songs

Sun rays as gold as corns

Quiet, stillness, and peace

As precious as diamond

Sight as warm as a hug

The lovely cicada

Like a sweet, slow ballad

Sunset like ending song

I never want to go

Picturesque – perfection

Fantastic work of God

The sight that feels like home

Where I truly belong
